What makes a good
epoxy floor

A floor that lasts decades isn’t a matter of luck. Here’s what sets apart a job well done — and what you should expect from any installer.

01

Epoxy is applied on a well-prepared surface

On concrete, everything must be removed down to the bare slab — never installed over paint or an old coating. Epoxy can also be applied on wood, provided the surface is properly worked and prepared beforehand.

02

Diamond grinding, not acid

Some installers settle for acid etching, which is faster and cheaper. Only mechanical grinding opens the pores of the concrete for a permanent bond of the coating.

03

Slab moisture must be checked

A slab that’s too damp will cause even the finest floor to peel. A good installer tests the moisture before installation and applies a moisture-blocking primer if needed.

04

Every crack is repaired before installation

Cracks, joints and chips must be opened, filled and leveled before the first coat. Covering a defect doesn’t make it disappear — it will show through the finish.

05

Thickness and saturation matter

Coats that are too thin or flakes broadcast lightly wear out prematurely. A quality system is measurable: a generous base coat, flakes at full saturation, an even sealant.

06

The urethane topcoat makes the difference

The final coat must protect against UV and abrasion — it’s what prevents yellowing and preserves the shine. And it’s applied under controlled temperature conditions, never rushed.

Preparation is the key.

That’s why every Espace Epoxy project starts with complete mechanical preparation of the slab — the foundation of lasting adhesion.
